Learn how to create and sell gift card products or issue gift cards directly to customers in PlanetShopping.

Purpose

PlanetShopping lets you sell gift cards as products in your online store or issue a gift card directly to a customer. You can set gift card values, organise the product, manage its SEO information and choose whether an issued gift card has an expiration date.

Create a gift card product

To create a gift card that customers can purchase from your store:

From the Merchant Panel, go to Products → Gift Cards.
Select Add Gift Card Product.
Enter a Title and Description.
Choose the Product Status.
Complete the available Product Organization information, such as product type, vendor and collections.
Set the gift card denominations.
Review the search engine listing preview and select Edit website SEO if you want to customise the search information.
Select Create Gift Card.

Set gift card denominations

Gift card products can have multiple purchase values. PlanetShopping provides denomination fields where you can enter the values you want to offer.

You can add another value with Add Denomination or remove a denomination you no longer want to offer. Choose values that make sense for your products and customers.

Gift card SEO

Gift card products include a Search engine listing preview. Select Edit website SEO when you want to customise how the gift card product is presented to search engines.

Issue a gift card directly to a customer

You can also issue a gift card without creating a customer-facing gift card purchase first.

Go to Products → Gift Cards.
Select Issue Gift Card.
Enter the Gift card code.
Enter the Initial value.
Choose whether the gift card has No expiration date or select Set expiration date.
Select the customer who should receive the gift card. To send a gift card code, the customer needs an email address or phone number.
Add a private note if needed.
Select Activate.

Expiration dates

PlanetShopping allows you to issue a gift card with no expiration date or set an expiration date. Gift card expiry rules differ between countries and regions, so check the laws that apply to your business before setting an expiration date.

Private notes

When issuing a gift card, you can add a note for your own records. These notes are private and are not shared with the customer.

Can I sell gift cards through my online store?

Yes. Create a gift card product under Products → Gift Cards and set the denominations customers can purchase.

Can I issue a gift card directly to a customer?

Yes. Select Issue Gift Card, enter the code and initial value, choose the customer and activate the gift card.

Can I offer more than one gift card value?

Yes. Add multiple denominations to the gift card product and use Add Denomination when you need another value.

Can I set an expiration date?

Yes. When issuing a gift card, you can choose No expiration date or Set expiration date. Check the applicable gift card laws before setting an expiry date.

Can I edit the SEO for a gift card product?

Yes. Use Edit website SEO in the Search engine listing preview.
