Payments & Store Setup

Configure Taxes

Learn how to add country taxes, choose how tax is charged and test your PlanetShopping tax setup before launch.

Purpose

Tax settings let you add tax by country or region and control how tax is applied to product prices and shipping rates. Each merchant remains responsible for determining where they have tax obligations and how those obligations apply to their business.

What You’ll Learn

  • You’ll learn how to open tax settings, add a country tax, choose how tax is charged, control tax on individual products and test the result before launch.

Before You Begin

Know the countries, states, provinces or other jurisdictions where your business is required to collect tax. If you are unsure, consult the appropriate tax authority or a qualified tax professional before relying on a store configuration.

Step 1 – Open Tax Settings

From your Merchant Panel, select Settings, then select Taxes.

Step 2 – Add Country Tax

From Settings → Taxes, select Add Country Tax. Choose the Country/Region, enter the Tax %, and enter the Tax name.

Step 3 – Choose How Tax Is Charged

Use Include tax in prices to include tax in your displayed product prices. Use Charge tax on shipping rates to include shipping rates in the tax calculation.

Step 4 – Set Tax on Individual Products

When adding or editing a product, use Charge tax on this product to control whether tax is charged on that product.

Step 5 – Test Your Tax Setup

Run a test checkout using a customer address in a Country/Region where you collect tax. Confirm that the tax and order total are displayed as expected.

Note

Add the countries or regions where you collect tax, then complete a test checkout before publishing your store.

Tips & Best Practices

Use a clear Tax name. Review your tax settings when you begin selling into new markets. Do not copy another merchant’s tax configuration. Keep records of the settings you choose and the guidance you relied on.
