Managing Your Blog

Learn how to create blog posts in PlanetShopping and add a Blog section to your online store.

Purpose

A blog gives you a place to publish useful content for your customers, share news and stories, and build content around your products and brand. PlanetShopping lets you create blog posts from the Merchant Panel and display them on your storefront using the Blogs section in Store Builder.

Create a blog post

To create a new blog post:

  1. From the Merchant Panel, go to Online Store → Blog.
  2. Select Create Blog Post.
  3. Enter the post Title.
  4. Write your post in the Content editor. Use the formatting controls to format text, add links and organise your content.
  5. Add an Excerpt. The excerpt gives customers a short preview of the post where blog summaries are displayed.
  6. Add a Featured Image for the post.
  7. Under Visibility, choose Visible or Hidden. Use the date field when setting the post's visibility date.
  8. Under Organization, select the Blog and add Tags where useful. Separate tags with commas.
  9. Review the Search engine listing preview. Select Edit website SEO if you want to customise how the blog post is presented for search engines.
  10. Select Save.

Visible and hidden posts

The Visibility section controls whether a blog post is visible on your store. Choose Visible when the post should be available to customers, or Hidden when you do not want it displayed.

Organise blog posts

Use the Blog selection under Organization to place the post in the appropriate blog. You can also add Tags to help organise related content.

Featured images and excerpts

A Featured Image gives the post a visual thumbnail when it appears in a Blog section. The Excerpt provides a shorter introduction or summary that can be displayed with the post before a customer selects Read more.

Blog SEO

Each blog post includes a Search engine listing preview. PlanetShopping creates the basic search listing from your post information, and you can select Edit website SEO when you want to customise its search information.

Use clear, descriptive post titles and write content that is genuinely useful to your customers. Your blog can support your wider SEO strategy by giving search engines and customers more useful content to discover.

Add blogs to your storefront

Creating blog posts and displaying them on your storefront are separate steps. Once you have blog content, you can add a Blogs section to a page through Store Builder.

To add the section:

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes.
  2. On the theme you want to edit, select Customize.
  3. In Store Builder, select the page where you want the blog content to appear.
  4. Select Add section.
  5. Choose Blogs.
  6. Configure the Blogs section to suit your store.
  7. Review the section in the storefront preview and publish your Store Builder changes when ready.

Customise the Blogs section

The Blogs section includes controls for its presentation. These include:

  • Heading
  • Sub Heading
  • Show sub heading
  • Heading Size
  • Number of Columns
  • Image Height
  • Image Object Fit
  • Section Background settings, including a background image, size, attachment, position and background colour
  • Section Padding

Use these settings to make the Blog section fit naturally with the rest of your storefront design.

What customers see

The Blogs section can display blog posts in a multi-column layout with their featured images, titles, excerpts and Read more links. The exact presentation depends on the Store Builder settings you choose and the content added to each post.
